Employer-paid Tuition Advancement for Low-income Workers

Early College High School Week

March 25-31, 2012

Early college high schools and their partners around the country will bring together students, administrators, parents, community leaders, and legislators to celebrate Early College High School Week 2012, March 25-31.

This fourth annual nationwide celebration will continue highlighting the early college model, proven to increase high school graduation and college-readiness rates among students who are least likely to attend college through academic rigor and college-level courses—not remediation.

The Early College High School Initiative was launched in 2002. Since then, 270 schools across 28 states have joined to serve more than 75,000 students each year. They are predominately young people of color. Many are from low-income families, and few of their parents have attended college. Despite these facts, they have achieved remarkable results:

  • 93% of students graduate from high school (compared to 76% of their respective districts)
  • 93% of graduates earn at least some college credits
  • 78% of graduates enroll in college immediately after high school
  • 56% of graduates earn more than two years of college credits
  • 24% of graduates earn an Associate’s degree or college certificate
